5 Days in Lombok: A Tropical Journey Through Culture, Beaches, Forests & Waterfalls

Day 1: Cultural Welcome & Sunset at Merese Hill

As soon as I stepped out of Lombok International Airport, the warm breeze instantly told me I was in the right place. My driver picked me up and we headed straight to the cultural heart of the island.

My first stop was Sukarara Village, home of traditional Sasak weaving. The colorful fabrics hung everywhere, and I watched local women weave with incredible skill. They even dressed me in traditional clothing — a moment I’ll never forget.

Next, I explored Sade Village, an authentic Sasak settlement where time seems to move slower. Walking between the bamboo houses with thatched roofs, I felt a deep sense of connection to the island’s heritage.

The afternoon brought me to Kuta Mandalika Beach, where white sand stretched across a calm bay. Not far away, Tanjung Aan Beach mesmerized me with turquoise water and rolling green hills.

But nothing prepared me for the magic of Merese Hill. I climbed up just in time to watch the sun melt into the ocean. The sky painted itself with gold and orange, and I sat quietly, letting Lombok’s serenity wash over me.

Dinner that night was local — spicy Ayam Taliwang — before checking into my hotel and resting for the adventure ahead.

Day 2: Snorkeling in the Gilis — A World Beneath the Waves

Day two began early as I headed to the harbor to board a traditional boat. The sea breeze was refreshing, and the gentle rocking of the boat signaled the start of an unforgettable day.

My destinations: Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno, and Gili Air.

Snorkeling in these crystal-clear waters felt like entering another universe. I swam above vibrant coral reefs, schools of colorful fish, and even spotted a sea turtle gliding peacefully. Every dip into the water felt like discovering hidden treasures.

On Gili Trawangan, I rented a bicycle and circled the island. No cars, no motorbikes — just sandy paths, palm trees, and the sound of waves. I had lunch at a beachfront café, toes in the sand, ocean in front of me, feeling completely alive.

Before heading back, we stopped at Malimbu Hill, a stunning viewpoint overlooking the three Gilis. The gentle wind, the sweeping landscape — it was the perfect end to the perfect island day.

Day 3: Jungle Adventure to Sendang Gile & Tiu Kelep Waterfalls

Today was dedicated to nature — the raw, refreshing kind.

I traveled toward Senaru Village, located at the foot of Mount Rinjani. The air grew cooler as we entered the rainforest area, and the sound of birds echoed in the distance.

The first waterfall, Sendang Gile, greeted me with a calming roar. The mist kissed my face as I walked closer, feeling instantly refreshed.

But then came the real adventure: the trek to Tiu Kelep Waterfall. The trail led me over streams, under trees, and along damp pathways. It wasn’t a difficult trek, but it was beautifully immersive.

And when I finally reached Tiu Kelep…
Wow.

A tall sheet of water cascaded down in a semi-circle of stone and greenery — it felt like standing in a hidden world. I dipped my feet into the cool water and just stayed there, soaking in the moment.

I returned to my hotel that evening physically tired but emotionally full, drifting into sleep with the sound of waterfalls still echoing in my mind.

Day 4: Pink Sand, Quiet Islands & A Golden Sunset

I started the day slowly, savoring breakfast before heading out for another coastal adventure.

My first destination was Pink Beach — yes, the sand is truly pink when the sunlight hits it right. It’s caused by tiny fragments of pink coral mixing with the white sand. Standing there felt surreal, like walking inside a painting.

Later, I explored a cluster of smaller, quieter islands. Snorkeling here was even more peaceful — fewer boats, calmer waves, and a stronger sense of solitude. I lay on the boat deck afterward, reading a book while the sea whispered beside me.

In the late afternoon, I hiked up a scenic hill overlooking the coastline. The sun slowly dipped behind the horizon, casting long shadows and turning the sky orange. I sat there as the wind brushed my face, feeling grateful for every moment on this island.

Dinner was in a local beachside restaurant — simple, warm, and filled with laughter from the staff and other travelers.

Day 5: Last Moments — Souvenirs & Farewell

On my final day, I revisited Lombok’s cultural side, stopping by local craft shops to pick up woven fabrics, pearls, wooden carvings, and traditional crafts.

I returned to Sade Village to say goodbye and take one last photo with the locals who had warmly welcomed me on the first day.

Before heading to the airport, I sat for a moment by a quiet beach, letting the ocean breeze wrap around me one last time. It hit me how quickly the five days passed — yet how full they felt.

With a heart full of memories, I made my way to the airport, already dreaming of coming back.
